ABADDON - "destroyer" a radically fundamentalist Rapaxian, usually of the borealis type, who believes preying on Essaps is their birthright and wants to eliminate all Rapaxian opposition to the idea through power and violence. An Abaddon is intractably opposed to self-selection to change the essential make-up of a Rapax, so that they can survive without ingesting human blood or b needing to.
ADOTAR - The male designated by a female for The Ritual with whom she nests. At her first mating, the Alpha male of her designated Household becomes her first Adotar. * After the Ritual he is her Sadique. If she chooses another male for another child, he becomes Adotar until after The Ritual.
*It is always the prerogative of the female to refuse any male or to request any male. It can happen, very rarely, that a woman will reject the Sadique of the Household to which she is assigned. She may also, of course, refuse to mate at all.
It is a shocking breach of cultural norms for any eligible male to refuse to do his duty to any woman who wishes him to be her Adotar. It would place a greater burden on another male who must take his place and could even cause the woman to choose to not have another child.ARVEDAH - Face shield of metal lace worn by women during their first Ritual to prevent damage to the Sadique, and by all males witnessing The Rite of Election to prevent attacking one another if there is a blood mishap and they should be subject to Rahkrosa.
AUKA - "the prey" The one killed so the Rapax can eat.
BROTHEN - "plunder" The complete act of preying on a human being. The four parts of Brothen are Subduction "besieging" (The Capture), Bushezzi "slicing" (The Opening), Tapkliss "controlling" (The Sealing) and Edatek "consuming" (The Swallowing).
BUSHEZZI - "slicing" called The Opening. The action of forcing four upper incisors at the proper angle to penetrate into the neck and cleanly dissect the carotid artery. Bushezzi is only accomplished correctly when the mandible is "unhinged" and the flat bottom incisors bring oppositional pressure, stabilizing the maxilla and biting surface to achieve a smooth entry and access to the artery around the sheilding musculature.
CADRE - Members of the Cadre "enforce and protect." They are the highest status members of a Household, numbers can vary from four to twelve. They are considered "Elders" who are often consulted by the Shaphet and the Sadique. They witness The Rite of Election and can transmit Attachment by pheromone to the rest of the Household.
The highest status members are most vulnerable to Detachment Syndrome ("Frenzy" in the vernacular) or, in females, to "Wandering" in which a female leaves a Household and offers herself to a different Sadique. They are also the most strongly attached and so give off the greatest concentration of scent.CANDIDATE - Abraam who comes for the Rite of Election to assume the position of Sadique. (see "Rite of Election" for the method by which he does this) He is assigned by genetic make-up by a consensus among the top geneticists worldwide who consult online. Considerations are the genetic make-up of the Household's fertile women as well as his own. He must have genes for traits that are considered highly-desirable.
CHYIAN - traveler with purpose - agent of another
CHUMAR - "caretakers" Usually six women in shifts of two who remain constantly with a woman from her Greeting, through her nesting, to her Ritual. They introduce her to the rest of the Household after the Greeting, care for her, witness and staff The Ritual, protecting the Sadique until the conclusion. Two of them then take the woman to the Nest. The other four women wash, wrap, and care for the Sadique in seclusion until he regains his strength. Usually from five to ten days.

DAKCHALEF - An ancient and smaller version of a chalef, a ceremonial knife used in kosher slaughter. (see The Rite of Election for use of the Dakchalef) A Dakchalef is been handed down from Sadique to Candidate and many are more than two thousand years old. The Repository, located in a cave outside of Jerusalem, holds the elements of Rapaxian culture, including many Dakchalef. If a Household is disbanded, or if a new Household is created, the Dakchalef from one is returned to the Repository, or a one is sent from there to the new Household.
DECLARATION - Primal vocalization - when a male claims Sadique after killing, or after a male achieves orgasm during mating. The Declaration is a biological trigger. In Election, it causes the Household to Attach. In Mating, it triggers release of ovum into the Fallopian tube and causes a secretion that dissolves a protective coating around the ovum so that sperm can penetrate. It also triggers her Declaration, detaching her from the Sadique, to become a full member of the Household.
DETACHMENT - What the Household undergoes if the Sadique dies outside of The Ritual of Election. Males will develop Detachment Syndrome (aka "Frenzy") and attack one another in fights to the death until only one male is left. The Detached females in most cases will Attach to this male. If they do not, they kill him and will choose an immature male from their own Household as a placeholder until he comes to sexual maturity. If he completes The Ritual with the Shaphet, he is Sadique.
There are inherent genetic issues with this rare occurrence as the Shaphet can be his mother or grandmother or other very close relative.EDATEK - swallowing the blood after Bushetti.

NESTING - A sexually mature male and female live together to trigger estrus. With a Maiden female, the Chumar are also present to protect the Adotar and preserve the Ritual.
RAHKROSA - "blood fury" Only in men. The sight and/or smell of blood triggers a madness, a total compulsion to cut into flesh and swallow blood. The act of swallowing blood is comparable to an orgasm on an Essap. But more powerful. And continuous as they take in the 2 liters that is their capacity.
THE RITE OF ELECTION: The ceremony at which a designated Candidate declares himself a Challenger to the sitting Sadique, who accepts his challenge. The Rite is always witnessed by The Cadre and as many Household members as wish to be present who have reached sexual maturity. In modern times, they are usually seated areas that look like "jury boxes" that are sealed off behind glass or plastic. This is to avoid the males entering Rahkrosa if there should be an emanation of blood.
The Rite proceeds after acceptance with the Gift, when the outgoing Sadique uses the Dakchalef to ceremonially, but very literally, cut open his chest to start a large quantity of fresh blood flowing which will put the Candidate into Rahkrosa. The Sadique hands the Dakchalef to the Shaphet, in whose custody it remains until she awards it to the Elect (victor) who becomes the new Sadique when he accepts it into his keeping. The Sadique must fight for his life or the Attachment will not occur correctly when he is killed. The Candidate is always stronger and faster from the Rahkrosa, the Sadique weakened by loss of blood, and usually Brothen is completed within a few minutes.
After the Edatek, the Candidate, now called the Elect, gives a Declaration of Victory, a vocalization that triggers the Attachment. The Shaphet, when Attachment is complete, approaches the Elect with the Dakchalef offered on her outstretched palms. He becomes Sadique when he takes it from her in front of the Household. This can happen immediately or take several hours. The time between Offering and Acceptance is called The Vigil.
After the Acceptance, Chumar take the body of the Emirite (former Sadique) from the Chamber and other Chumar take the new Sadique away to care for him in seclusion until he is ready to assume his duties. The Rite is complete when the Shaphet leaves the Chamber.
